A perfect blend

 A perfect blend of  man's and woman's handkerchiefs.

Some of you may have had enough of posting of these blocks on my other blog but I am having way too much fun. I have used up all of the strings I started out with so now just playing around with blocks.

They are now neatly stacked and in a box. I will wait until the next break between two projects to make more of these. If you want a rough guidelines on measurements for these, visit here.

Well, working with the Goodwill skirts and dresses was not enough. I wondered how men's shirts would play out. It is time to pull them out and make yet another one of my favorite quilts.

My color inspiration came from here.

More to wash and tear and cut and sew. 

Few ideas for scrap quilts

Cut a few two and a half inch squares.

Arrange them into 20" blocks on the design wall.

Sew them into blocks for simple arrangements.

 

 

 for quick results.

 

Make a Clam-shell quilt

Something small

The Victorian Hexagon Quilt is finished! I feel pretty proud.. Not only to have finished it but I will be starting to quilt it soon too. Yes, I am staying on track and not let that one go inside the closet.

Before I start quilting  the quilt, I decided to use up those cut-away scraps from the hexagon blocks. As much as I enjoyed making a quilt using foundation piecing method, I wasn't ready to throw away anything just yet.

So, I cut bits and pieces and used what I could and made a little quilt top. 

Yes, I can not emphasis enough on the word "little".

It is an 8" x 8" quilt, I would like to call "Fragments". It represents the memories left in fragments. In this case, the memories of my recent quilt and it's process.

I am making it to donate for the AAQI. For which it represents the fragments of memories left in a brain struck with Alzheimer.

I just found out that the quilt I made last year was sold. A perfect time for me to start another one.

Mini Quilt Challenge

Last fall Kathie of Inspired by Antique Quilts had sent me this block. Four little baskets were beautifully appliqued with scraps on scraps. Back then I was getting ready for my surgery and the block stayed patiently in the drawer until this afternoon.  (It was so long ago, I thought I had lost it in my sewing room)

I guess today was it's turn to be turned into a quilt. There must be something in the air because I have never stayed so focused on finishing pending projects.

Well, I am happy that these baskets got the attention they deserved.

Kathie had meticulously hand appliqued them. At one point I was even thinking of hand quilting this quilt but the excitement of finishing the quilt took over after I pieced around the block.

Most of the scraps I used came from a pile Nifty had sent me few months back.  I used the left over binding from other projects.. of course!

Baby Steps

My attempt of freehand machine quilting.

Sometimes, all it takes is a little courage and the will to try something new!

My first attempt to try something other than stippling and wavy lines. I can see how machine quilters get easily absorbed into various patterns and designs. This was actually a lot of fun!
I even tried binding with machine.

I went back to hand stitching the binding on my second quilt.

Quilts for Basics

If you are a member of this blog, I would like to encourage you to post your scrappy adventures. I know how difficult it is to maintain posting on several blogs. But it seems like this poor blog has been neglected by me and I would like to change that.
